About FRC Team 3100 – The Lightning Turtles
WHO ARE WE?
The Lightning Turtles, established in 2009, are an award winning FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team with currently 20+ high school student members. We build competition-level robots with real-world engineering while developing skills in CAD, programming, materials fabrication, project management, communication, strategic thinking and leadership. We are open to ALL high school students- no specialized skill or experience required- just the passion and dedication to build great things and compete. We are mentored by experienced engineers, and industry professionals, who help guide us through the processes of designing and building the robot. They help foster the skills we need to become a high performance team, and to better prepare us for college and our future careers.
WHAT IS FIRST AND FRC?
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a worldwide robotics organization that includes thousands of teams from over 100 countries. FIRST inspires young people to be science and technology leaders and innovators, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering, and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership. FIRST offers over $80 million in scholarships to colleges, universities, and technical programs- accessible only to registered FIRST team members!
The FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) combines the excitement of varsity sports with the rigors of science and technology. The hardest fun you’ll ever have! Under strict rules, over a seven week period, students will design, manufacture, assemble, program and test a robot to perform a precise set of tasks as part of a team-based competition. Teams will compete in regional tournaments with the opportunity to advance to the World Championship. Learn more about FIRST and FRC at firstinspires.org
