Theory 6 - Pneumatic Operations

A pneumatic system is somewhat similar to an electrical system. Instead of pushing around electrons, it pushes around air. In this section apprentices will learn the various operations that go into using a pneumatic system. These include, for instance, a compressor, solenoids, pistons, and air storage tanks.

Practical 6 - Pneumatic Fittings

The vast majority of pneumatic fittings used in FRC are “push-to-connect”. In this section students will learn how to make and break connections with this type of fittings, as well as tips and tricks on how to do so in cramped spaces.

Practical 7 - Threaded fittings and PTFE tape

Connecting pneumatic fittings into solenoids, compressors, or pistons involves using threaded fittings along with PTFE (teflon) thread tape. This operation of putting on thread tape in the correct direction, followed by carefully attaching the fitting into its receptacle, will be learned in this section.
